Sign's to know you are doing agile well

You'll find many measures of agile team performance and behavior out there, but listed here are ones you don’t often hear much about—even though they're key to success.
Why don't you hear about them? Because these are indicators of success, rather than straight-up metrics, for IT leaders who want to observe how an agile transformation is actually changing things for the better.
Here's how to tell if you're succeeding.
1. People are beating down the doors to be part of your organization

This is one of the truest measures of the health of any organization's culture. Do employees recommend your organization to friends, family, and colleagues? What are they saying about your organization?
Consider your work environment. If you put on an open house and invited folks in, would they feel welcome? Would they get a sense of the culture from the people who work there?

2. Intentional collaboration around a limited set of high-impact, high-value efforts is the norm
Do people on your team swarm on the work to be done—or are there lots of "Lone Rangers" or "brilliant jerks" in your culture? Collaboration should be the norm. This doesn't mean that you can't have healthy and respectful debates. But they should happen only around the things that truly matter.
The flip side of this is that you should make space for introverts who prefer to work alone, offering both physical space and space for thinking, reflection, ideation, and being themselves.

3. Your culture is serious about results, but the experience of getting there is joyous and fun

Do you sense that people are happy the minute you enter the workspace? Is there a sense of joy and playfulness in the air? And is that joy resilient, remaining even when your teams face challenges and the going gets tough?
It should be coming from all directions, bottom-up and top-down. It should be honest and genuine. And it should be modeled by everyone.

4. Customers (Stakeholder, PO's, TPMs) are fully engaged in the value stream and are getting their highest-priority needs met

Do you always focus on the customer, Stakeholder, PO's, TPMs and on delivering what they need, as opposed to what you think they need or might ask for? Is there too much discussion about "being agile" in your community and too little focus on getting the actual work done?
Successful organizations focus on delivering value.

5. Your team's junior members make suggestions, offer constructive criticisms and ask for help

Is yours a culture where anyone can have a candid conversation with the most senior leaders in management—and across the teams themselves? Can they safely speak truth to power; that is, will management receive it as healthy and useful feedback?
What's more, do your leaders actually encourage and demand this sort of feedback? Hierarchy and titles should be less important than having the crucial conversations necessary to deliver great work.

6. Diversity within and across teams is part of your culture

You need diversity not just in hiring but in decision making and ideation. When seeking broad diversity, think beyond gender and racial diversity.
You want to create a culture that naturally embraces people with a diversity of experience, ideas, cultures, and backgrounds. This is not something that HR can inspire with diversity metrics. It's about being inclusive.

7. Everyone coaches, mentors and leads when appropriate

Is everyone empowered to be a coach, a mentor, a teacher? Is it part of your culture to help one another and accept help? It should be about learning and growing together as a team. Is your team about "us and we" over "I and me"? And is everyone open to being coached—even management?
Leadership, rather than being instituted by title and hierarchy, should be something that rises from within individuals. They should lead by example and be role models for the organization. They set the organizational culture by what they do and by walking their talk.

8. Leaders exhibit humility, positivity, appreciation, and kindness

This is about being nice to one another. No, you don't want niceness to become excessive, but your culture should be one where everyone on the team is kind, humble, thankful, grateful, and appreciative of one another.

Rather than viewing people simply as resources, your organization should treat them as human beings.

How do you measure success?

Imagine working in a culture that supports, exhibits, and encourages all of these indications. What would that feel like as an organizational culture? Would it support agile values and principles? Imagine the results such an organization could deliver.
So think about it and think about supporting these practices within your own culture as part of your leadership journey. Don't look upward for change. Instead, look inwardly, since it starts with you.

Any Good News?

OMG! I am really fed up with answering this question. I got married and going to complet 2 years. Actually In this society, this question will be asked to a newly married couple with the intent of knowing whether they have build their baby or not. But the sad thing is that the couples have to answer that question even though they haven’t evaluated that question.
Yes, We have not yet started the process. But we have already started saying “NO” for that question. Actually our answer should be “Not Applicable”. But generally, we didn’t get this option for that question. We have to say “YES” or “NO”.
Actually I have so many dreams. First I want to enjoy my love life with my wife, want to go to foreign countries with her, want to dance with her, want to play with her etc. If I said this frankly to my elder’s, then they will started prioritizing my task like “See planning to a child should be your first task with highest priority. All the other things u mentioned were only secondary tasks! So first try to complete your primary task”. This is the advice which I usually get from my elders if I said my plans to them.
Actually the desire of becoming a parent should come from my heart. But now it becomes a pressurized task for me like “University” syllabus which i need to complete that within 3 or 5 months of time (whichever is earlier) after my marriage.
Before my marriage, I was a kind of person who was enjoying a lot in whatever I was doing. No one will monitor me. No one will give me tasks to do. No one will evaluate my activities. I have never worked under pressure in my personal life. I was doing whatever I felt was right.
But after my marriage, everything becomes upside down for me. Now I am running to get the so called “Social Status” in my life. I have to build a house, have to buy a car, have to make investments on gold and have to give plan for a baby ASAP. Actually I am already working under this much of pressure. So if anyone wants to ask such kind of question to a newly married couple , please provide them with the following options.
Question : Any Good News?
A. Yes
B. No
C. Not applicable.

...was it Shastri ji's misfortune that he was born on this date in this nation. The nation never gave the due respect to this great leader and Congress party sycophants were never allowed to think beyond their "Holy Clan" (Nehru, Gandhi & now the Maino).
In my opinion Shastri ji was the best prime minister that the nation ever had & undoubtedly the best Congress leader in the post independence era…. He effectively lead the nation in one of most difficult times India went through after independence.
Although social networking sites are smaller channels penetrating in even smaller segment of India but I sincerely request to one and all who view this post to write about Lal Bahadur Shastri on their walls today…. We all owe a lot to this one Honest Prime Minister.
Jai Hind!!!

(27 September)

Ram Prasad Bismil

Getting Right Motivation

This is a story of two brothers. One was a drug addict and a drunker who frequently beat up his family. The other one was a very successful businessman who was respected in society and had a wonderful family.

Some people wanted to find out why two brothers from the same parents, brought up in the same environment, could be so different.

The first one was asked, "How come you do what you do? You are a drug addict, a drunk, and you beat your family. What motivates you?"

He said, "My father." They asked, "What about your father?"

The reply was, "My father was a drug addict, a drunk and he beat his family. What do you expect me to be? That is what I am."

They went to the brother who was doing everything right and asked him the same question. "How come you are doing everything right? What is your source of motivation?"

And guess what he said? "My father. When I was a little boy, I used to see my dad drunk and doing all the wrong things. I made up my mind that that is not what I wanted to be."

Both were deriving their strength and motivation from the same source, but one was using it positively and the other negatively. Negative motivation brings the desire to take the easier way which ends up being the tougher way.

Nice Quotes

Operation Blue Star, 27 years on

It was on this day 27 years ago that Operation Blue Star flushed out Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and his separatist followers from the Golden Temple in Amritsar.

Bhindranwale was using the shrine as a refuge and had piled up weapons for use in hate crimes against non-Sikhs.

But to this day the scars of 1984 are visible. The siege on the temple lasted three days and claimed many innocent lives. Though the operation was the brainchild of prime minister Indira Gandhi, she later regretted it. The military action led to her assignation two months after Operation Blue Star.

Yahoo! India News brings you pages from a violent chapter.

What was Operation Blue Star?

It was a military raid ordered by Indira Gandhi to eliminate separatists who had taken cover in the holiest of Sikh shrines. The operation spanned four days, between June 3 and 6, and was carried out by the Indian Army which laid siege to the temple complex with tanks and armoured vehicles.

The then Vice-Chief of Indian Army SK Sinha was first asked to lead the operation, but he advised against it saying it this would hurt Sikh sentiments. Indira Gandhi replaced him with Lt Gen A S Vaidya, who along with Lt Gen K Sundarji then planned the operation.

The operation kicked-off with a 36-hour curfew on June 3. All communication was suspended in Punjab, cutting off the state from the rest of the world.

The assault on the temple and the timing of it came in for heavy criticism as heavy artillery was used in the congested by lanes of Amritsar which lead to the death of many innocent bystanders. There was a huge uproar in the Sikh community worldwide, which was followed by hate crimes on Sikhs in parts of India.

Who was Bhindranwale?

Born in 1947, Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale was enrolled in a religious school. Later, he travelled across Punjab to teach and persuade people to live life according to the tenets of Sikhism. He became the new leader of Damdami Taksal, a 300-year-old educational organisation founded by Guru Gobind Singh, when his guru Kartar Singh died in an accident. That was his first step to power.

Though he was not successful in electoral politics, he wielded a great deal of authority using which he overthrew the authority of the Shiromani Akali Dal. He became so powerful that political leaders in Punjab could not take any major decision without first seeking his assent.

His support for the creation of a Sikh majority nation of Khalistan led to his fall-out with the Indira Gandhi regime. In the early eighties, Sikh extremists who dreamt of carving out an independent nation, had slowly begun to take control of the state by unleashing terror and killing hundreds of non-Sikhs.

Bhindranwale was seen as an inciter, running his bloody campaign from the confines of the Golden Temple. He had turned the holiest shrine of the Sikhs into a safe haven for his followers. He openly defied the centre, but the state police did not dare to take any action against him.

Bhindranwale was suspected to be behind the assassination of Lala Jagat Narain, owner of the Hind Samachar group of newspapers and a Congress leader. He was arrested but was released as no evidence was found against him.

He lived all his life by the principle of hate and spurred the killings of innocent people, and was killed during Operation Blue Star.

What was the problem in Punjab?

In 1947 when India was divided on the basis of religion, Punjab was split between India and Pakistan. Sikhs opposed the partition and felt they were being treated shabbily. When the idea of Pakistan was put forth, Sikhs said they should have a nation for themselves. Thus the idea of Khalistan was born.

The partition of India had left a deep scar in Sikhs as they were forced to abandon their homes and become refugees. The Sikhs were the most affected by the partition as they were torn between two nations and a mass exodus took place during which many Sikhs lost their lives in the carnage that followed.

Punjab in India was a Hindu majority state and the Sikhs felt that they were being discriminated against. Many eminent Sikhs alleged that the Indian government was conspiring to destroy the Sikh community and their culture.

In the 1950-60s, there was an uproar in India when the government declared Hindi as the national language which led to a nationwide movement of linguistic majority groups to seek separate states on the basis of language. This gave the Sikhs a ray of hope for carving out a Punjabi-speaking state, a demand that intensified the tension between Hindus and Sikhs. At that time, Punjab's capital was Shimla even though the majority of Sikhs lived in Punjab.

The States Reorganisation Commission rejected their demand for a separate state, a move that reinforced the feeling that the Sikhs were being discriminated against.

The Akal Takht played a vital role in organizing Sikhs to campaign for the Punjabi speaking state, during which thousands of Sikhs were arrested. In 1966, Sikh leaders again demanded Punjabi Suba---a Punjabi speaking state---a demand which was later agreed to and led to the trifurcation of East Punjab into three states: Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh.

Events after partition, some groups convinced many Sikhs that they were being discriminated against. Calls for the creation of Khalistan became violent and anti-Indian.

What happened in the aftermath of Operation Blue Star?

Sikhs across the world were shocked when news poured in that the Golden Temple had been captured by Indian armed forces.

Many Sikhs in prominent administrative positions resigned in protest, and many in the armed forces quit. Sikhs also returned awards and honors they had received from the Indian government, the most prominent being author Khushwant Singh who returned his Padma Bhushan.

The operation also led to the assassination of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on October 31. She was gunned down by two of her Sikh bodyguards, Satwant Singh and Beant Singh.

The assassination triggered anti-Sikh riots that went on for four days when Congress supporters went on a rampage killing Sikh men and women, destroying homes, and attacking Gurdwaras.

The worst-hit was Delhi. Sikhs fled the city in huge numbers. Human rights organisations put the death toll at between 10,000 and 17,000. Human Rights Watch says the government has yet to prosecute those responsible for the mass killings. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh apologised for the raid two decades after it was conducted.

Indian Marriages, the midnight nightmares

Indian Marriage- these two words are enough for any Indian family to get energized to “halal ” the next “ bakra ” standing in the line of execution. Quite similar to the death penalty it self, the occasion brings in various varieties of feast and their respective bees (invitees) to the beehive. Old ones like prospective Saas (Mother-in-Law) and Sasur (Father-in-Law) from the groom’s side are always over excited for the newest member of their family and remaining clans are excited over the specific material gains. And as far the Chacha’s and Mama’s are concerned from the both sides, they always get prepared with their “Donali- The two barrel guns” to shoot some imaginary asses over the dark black sky.

The process of execution starts with glossy & designer invitation cards with the words printed with bold letters consisting the name of Inmate and her prospective Lugai (the wife) and above all judges (parents) names who wrote the order of execution also gets special highlights. The name of pundit in the extreme left corner down the bottom of the card seems to be a great introduction of a “Jallad the executioner” of its own kind. Whateverrr, the first hammer gone on the table.

The next process starts with “Shagun Inter-Exchange Program”. Now that’s what you call a NASDAQ Trading Floor. Sarees, Blouse (of various sizes), Peticoats (of various dimensions), Sweets (of various tastes), Dry Fruits etc are the modes of trading. After this so called exchanges, respective teams discuss their gains and losses at their respective dressing rooms and figure out some more brilliant strategies for their next encounter. Hurray for Team India!!

Here comes the D-Day, the “Dulha the Groom” take martyr’s seat over a “Ghodi ” leading a big regiment of baratis with a band-baja. The bunch of young bloods jumping likes Daler Mehndis over the song by an unrecognized singer with an unrecognized voice. Some of the excited electrons of the outer orbit loose their valence bond and ignites the firecrackers to crack some real ass out of the passer byes. Unfortunately, if you are the one, Please from next time carry an earplug, a swimming goggle and an Oxygen tank to avoid such kind of undesired scuba dive.

On the gate of Dulhan’s (Bride’s) House, another regiment of holy “kasais the butchers” is standing with the necessary items to receive the Dulha. Inside the Dulha’s Mind, he was expecting more in terms of an item number by Mallika Sherawat, any way his day’s are going to over within a few hours. The grazing eyes of the groom are saying a last goodbye to every single pretty face at the venue with giving promises to meet all of them in his next incarnation. And my condolence goes with him with an assurance, Main Hoo Naa!!!

By the time he enters the Mandap the Butcher Hall, his eyes clashes with the Jallad singing the hymns of the rituals, whose every word is symbolizing the slow death of his bachelorhood. The old scratchy tape recorder blaring the music of Bismillah Khan’s Shenai resonating like supernatural background score. Then comes the bride loaded with jewllery like a woman commando of special forces, ready to kill through her beautiful eyes in the sense of "akhiyon se goli maare.. dhiciyaaaan".With the help of step by step processes, including Kanyadaan, Mangalsutra, Garlands and Saat Phere marriage gets over. The anamoly of such institution can be discovered in the later stages of the life. But the night goes on with a start of the new relations and Chachas-Mamas mili bhagat- The Donali Syndrome Prevails allover.

India, the land of profanity

“Oye Bhain Di, Hindi bolti hai?”- The opening lines spoken by Aamir Khan in Rang De Basanti has given enough explanation how the cult of profanity has gone deep-rooted into our society. Any way, few months ago, when I paid a self-surprise visit to my old school, I found many small toddlers speaking well-versed “gaalis” fluently, better we should forget about their Hindi lessons. As time has passed, the acceptability of such vocabulary has given upper hand to the people to express their feelings in a different way. Many of them believe it’s a best way to express one’s feeling in a better way. Those days had gone when people usually used such words with a grudge. They are now more polite with a punch like “ Bhain ke lode, kal phone kyun nahin kiya??”

The melancholies of such words are different through various points of views. As a musician composes a beautiful masterpiece by using various notes, the same way common junta composes their own kind of profanity based words. Elite people prefer to use English, just to prove how well they are using their high education for a perfect disposal.

Just take an example of an engineering college, a student comes out of a room after a gruesome journal submission cum viva, he shoots – “ Maa ke Lode ne aaj meri gaand maar di!” His friend on his support says- “ Gaand aur Doodh jab phat-ta hai, tab awaaaz nahin aati. Hahahaha”. Just see the flow of ideas and information! I simply can’t believe it; the system of natural human communication has evolved into such lower degree of expressions.

Don’t mind!! Even girls are also playing a pivotal role. If you don’t believe my words, just do drop by nearest hang out zone of cities like Bangalore, Pune or Delhi you will find the word “Fuck” with a feminine touch on a Play & Rewind list. So, if you ever considering to hear “Madder Chod” from a Behari, the 21st century girl in reply will shoot “You!! MOTHER FUCKER” – The instant Hindi-To-English Dictionary!!!

Relatively speaking, I don’t have any complains from this ongoing traditional change. But what so ever, the equation of being polite and to keep one’s mouth afresh gives substantial maters of doubts. Any type of mouth fresheners like Pass-Pass or Minto fresh cant do enough justice on this issue neither I do expect much from any upcoming FMCG companies. It’s all up to the personal choice what to speak and what not to speak, why to speak and why not to speak, how to speak and how not to speak, when to speak and when not to speak.

Different Perceptions: Men & Women

I look at it as some extra fat on my bum, he looks at it as ooh yum-yum! Man and woman will always have different perceptions about everything. Now listen to this small tale, with one incident and two opinions. Man and Woman. Read on!

Women friends chatting -

Woman 1: I had a fine evening, how was yours?

Woman 2: it was a disaster. My husband came home, ate his dinner in three minutes and fell asleep in two minutes. How was yours?

Woman 1: Oh it was amazing! My husband came home and took me out to a romantic dinner. After dinner we walked for an hour. When we came home he lit the candles around the house and afterward talked for an hour. It was like a fairytale!

At the same time, their husbands are talking at work -

Husband 1: How was your evening?

Husband 2: Great. I came home, dinner was on the table, I ate and fell asleep. It was great! What about you?

Husband 1: It was horrible. I came home, there's no dinner because they cut the electricity because I hadn't paid the bill; so I had to take my wife out to dinner which was so expensive that I didn't have money left for a cab. We had to walk home which took an hour; and when we got home remember there was no electricity so I had to light candles all over the house! After all, I was so aggravated that I couldn't fall asleep and my wife was jabbering away for another hour!
